Helen Fairburn
Counsellor in York

About Me

I am an experienced, compassionate and professionally qualified counsellor based in York. I work with people aged 16+  who are experiencing a range of difficulties. I combine the therapeutic benefits of counselling with the more solution focused approach of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) as I find this best helps bring about positive change. I am also trained in Mental Health First Aid, Safeguarding and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from York St John University and have 10 years’ experience working in the mental health charity sector, providing 1:1 counselling sessions and managing a range of therapeutic services for young people and adults.

Prior to this I was a Civil Servant for just under 20 years. This offered me personal experience of the daily stressors and pressures that we can face in seeking that all important work life balance, especially as a full-time working parent. It was during this time that I trained as a practitioner of NLP. Experiencing how quickly this led to positive changes in my own life, and a desire to be able to offer this to others, led me to train to be a professional counsellor.

I also hold an up to date enhanced DBS certificate.
